One of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, the Temple of Artemis was once a magnificent sanctuary that rose skyward on 127 massive marble columns. Dedicated to Artemis of Ephesus, it was one of the largest temples of its era, drawing visitors from across the Mediterranean. Though destroyed and rebuilt over the centuries, today a single surviving column quietly whispers the grandeur of the past.
This lone standing column may look modest at first glance, but you immediately sense the weight of history it carries. The temple is just 1 km from our hotel, right between Ayasuluk Castle and Ephesus, an easy walk away. Especially at sunset, with the castle in the background, you’ll be amazed at how two thousand years of history fit into a single frame.
