Located about 35 km southeast of Selçuk, near Ortaklar on the road to Aydın, Magnesia is a hidden ancient city built on the fertile soil of the Meander Plain. To distinguish it from other cities of the same name in the region, it was known in antiquity as “Magnesia on the Meander.” Excavations carried out in recent years are bringing the city’s magnificent structures back to light.

The city’s most important building is the Temple of Artemis Leukophryene, the work of the famous architect Hermogenes and considered one of the largest temples of antiquity. With its spacious agora, incredibly well-preserved stadium, and theater, Magnesia is a calm and remarkably impressive place that has not yet been overrun by tourist crowds. Just 30 minutes from our hotel, the ancient city can easily be visited as a stop along the way on routes heading toward Aydın.
