Didyma
Room Description
Located near the coast, 70 km south of Selçuk, Didyma was home to one of the largest and most important oracle centers of the ancient world. The massive Temple of Apollo here was designed on such a grand scale that its construction took centuries and, in fact, was never fully completed. With its towering columns and deep inner courtyard, the temple carries a majesty that captivates from the very first moment.
In antiquity, Didyma was linked to Miletus by a stone path known as the “Sacred Way”; travelers and kings would set out from the harbors of Miletus and walk this road to reach the temple to seek an oracle. The delicate stonework on the column bases, the famous Medusa relief, and the two giant columns still standing today carry the power of the past into the present. About an hour from our hotel, Didyma is the most magnificent final stop on southern excursions.
