Pergamon
Room Description
One of the most brilliant royal capitals of the Hellenistic period, Pergamon impresses at first sight with its acropolis perched atop a steep hill. Carved into the sheer hillside, one of the steepest theaters in the world offers a breathtaking view down over the plain. Once home to a massive library of 200,000 volumes, the city is also the place that gave parchment (Latin pergamena) its name.
Another important treasure of the city is the Asklepion, one of the most advanced health centers of the ancient world. Here, healing waters, therapy rooms, and a theater were used to heal patients in both body and spirit. On the UNESCO World Heritage List since 2014, Pergamon is about 200 km from our hotel, making it a great discovery point for a day trip or for journeys continuing north.
